The vinyl width is optimized for the Cameo 4 cutting plotter, but it can also be cut using Cameo 4 Plus, Pro, Skycut CX24, and D24 models. In such cases, the plotter rollers must be adjusted to a narrower spacing. The vinyl can also be used with cutting machines from other brands such as Cricut, xTool M1, and Brother when cutting on a mat.

To permanently apply the vinyl to your chosen fabric, it must be bonded to the material using an iron or a heat press.

How to Create a Flex Vinyl Iron-On Transfer – Step by Step

What you will need:

• Silhouette Flex Vinyl (in your chosen color and finish),
• a cutting plotter (e.g., Silhouette Cameo),
• a heat press or iron (preferably with adjustable temperature settings),
• the fabric item to decorate (e.g., a cotton T-shirt).

Step 1: Design Your Artwork

Create your design in your cutting software. Remember to mirror the artwork because it will be applied in reverse.

Step 2: Set Up the Plotter and Cut

Place the vinyl on the cutting mat with the shiny side (carrier sheet) facing down. Set the appropriate cutting parameters—Flex Vinyl usually requires low blade force and depth settings (depending on your plotter model and vinyl thickness). Then cut your design.

Step 3: Weed the Excess Vinyl

Remove unwanted vinyl using a weeding tool. Only the desired design should remain on the transparent carrier sheet.

Step 4: Prepare the Fabric

Lay the fabric flat and lightly iron it to remove wrinkles and moisture. Make sure the surface is clean and dry.

Step 5: Position the Vinyl

Place the design on the fabric with the carrier sheet facing up (shiny side visible).

Step 6: Heat Press the Design

Apply a heated press or iron (without steam). Temperature, pressure, and pressing time should follow the vinyl manufacturer's recommendations.

Step 7: Remove the Carrier Sheet

Wait a few seconds and carefully peel off the carrier sheet – Done!

It is not recommended to use Flex Vinyl on highly stretchable, silk, or very thin materials without performing a test first.
