Personalization of school supplies using a plotter – make it truly unique!

Creating personalized projects doesn't have to be difficult or expensive – all you need is a cutting plotter and a few basic materials, which you'll find in our offer. In this article, we'll show you three proven ideas for personalizing school supplies – from iron-on transfers, to stickers for lunch boxes and water bottles, to elegant gold embossing on notebooks.
1. Iron-on transfer for a dinosaur-shaped backpack with the Portrait 4 plotter
Kids love dinosaurs – and if they're also reflective and glued to their favorite backpack, it's a surefire success. With the Portrait 4 plotter, you can easily cut out even complex shapes from reflective foil and create an iron-on transfer that not only looks beautiful but also increases your child's visibility on the road.
Materials and tools needed:
Silhouette Portrait 4 plotter
Flex foil - reflective or your favorite color
Heat press or iron
Baking paper or Teflon sheet
A hook for removing excess foil
How to do it?
Prepare your design in Silhouette Studio. This can be any pattern or text – you can use patterns from the manufacturer's store, vectorize any contrasting graphic, or create your own design.
Cut the design from the foil using the Portrait 4 plotter. Remember, flex foil is cut mirror-image!
Remove any excess foil with the hook. Using this tool will make work quick and easy.
Place the design on the backpack, clear backing side up, and cover with a Teflon sheet. You can also use baking paper. This will further protect the surface of the material.
Press with a hot iron or heat press according to the foil manufacturer's recommendations. If using an iron, turn off the steam function. For best results, use a dedicated heat press.
After cooling, carefully remove the backing foil. Be careful not to burn yourself!
Done – your backpack has a unique look and improved visibility at night!
2. Personalized lunch box and water bottle with Cameo 5 plotter
Nothing gets lost at school more easily than a water bottle or lunch box, so it's worth labeling them. But instead of a simple marker label, you can create aesthetic stickers from self-adhesive foil with your child's name or favorite motif. The Cameo 5 plotter allows you to quickly cut foil without using a mat—directly from a 30.5cm-wide roll.
Materials and tools needed:
Silhouette Cameo 5 plotter
Vinyl foil
Transfer tape
Hook for removing excess foil from the backing
Scraper for application
How to do it?
Design a design in Silhouette Studio – for example, a name, icon, or label.
Cut the design out of self-adhesive foil without using the mat. If you have smaller foil pieces, for example, leftovers from cutting out previous designs, you can also use them by arranging them on the mat.
Remove any excess foil using a hook.
Apply the transfer foil to the finished design and smooth it out with a scraper.
Peel the entire design off the backing and place it on a lunch box or water bottle.
Use the scraper again to securely adhere the design, then gently remove the transfer foil.
In just a few minutes, you'll have a practical and aesthetically pleasing sign that will withstand even hand washing under running water.
3. Gilding a notebook cover with the Curio 2 plotter
If you're looking for something truly eye-catching, gilding notebooks is the way to go. This technique allows you to embellish covers with a subtle, metallic sheen – perfect for a gift or a special treat. The Curio 2 plotter is the only one in the Silhouette lineup that can handle thicker materials (up to 2 cm), meaning you can easily gild even thicker notebooks.
Materials and tools needed:
Silhouette Curio 2 plotter
Silhouette Heat Pen Set
Masking tape (you can use the tape included in the heat pen set to hold the notebook in place)
How to do it?
Prepare your design – for example, initials, a text, or an icon.
Secure the notebook in the device using masking tape.
Load the heat pen into holder number 2.
Place a piece of gilding foil on the notebook cover using masking tape.
Start the process – the plotter will heat the foil to the notebook surface.
When finished, carefully peel the foil sheet from the cover.
Gilding is abrasion-resistant and looks very professional. Perfect for personalizing notebooks, notebooks, calendars, and journals.
