The We R Foil Quill - Starter Kit contains the elements necessary to perform gilding using a plotter. It will allow you to create unique, elegant decorations, as well as letters, inscriptions, graphics and ornaments. Invitations, place cards, stationery and toppers will shine brilliantly, making your designs even more unique. The hot fixing method guarantees clean and durable gold plating, distinguished by its aesthetics. Thanks to this, the designs will look professional and elegant. When purchasing a starter kit, you receive all the elements necessary to start gilding.
Gilding set
It contains three tips - narrow - 0.5 mm, standard - 1.5 mm and wide - 2.5 mm. Thanks to this, you can create various decorations. Using the narrow tip, delicate inscriptions and more complex patterns will be created. The standard tip will allow you to create letters of standard sizes and interesting patterns. Using a wide tip will make it easier to create elements that require filling and thicker fonts.
In addition, the set includes three samples of gilding foil in silver, gold and rose gold, with dimensions. They will be perfect for testing the capabilities of the device.
The masking tape included in the starter kit is used to immobilize a sheet of gilding foil on the surface of the selected material. Covered with a delicate glue, it does its job without leaving any damage or dirt on the surface of the project.
The protective plate is an extremely important element that prevents the plotter housing from burning. When heating the tip for gilding, place the plate in the space between the tip and the machine housing and remove it just before inserting the mat into the plotter.
Adapters for Silhouette, Brother and Sizzix plotters allow you to use tips with models of these manufacturers.
Due to the manufacturer's update, We R sets are not recommended for Cricut plotters due to the inability to adjust the pressure force.
When working with the Silhouette Cameo 4 and Silhouette Portrait 3 plotters, use the adapter included in the We R set and an additional blue adapter included with the Silhouette plotter.
For the new generation Silhouette Cameo 5, Curio 2 and Portrait 4 plotters, an adapter kit must be purchased separately.
See the article on our blog about gilding with the Cameo 4 plotter.
Magnetic mat
Place a magnetic mat on the surface of the cutting mat covered with glue and then attach the selected material to it, for example a sheet of paper and gilding foil, using the magnetic strips included in the set. This will make removing the project from the mat convenient and without the risk of damage or bending.
To use a magnetic mat, you need a plotter mat covered with glue.
Gilding foils
The set includes three rolls of gilding foil in gold, silver and rose gold, each measuring 30.48 x 243.84 cm. Beautiful colors of the foil will allow you to match the appropriate finish to each project, so you will not be surprised by any circumstance or order. Thanks to its large dimensions, the foil is sufficient for many projects.
* it is recommended to check the gold plating on a given surface before starting the desired project.
The gilding technique using a laminator involves printing a pattern using an inkjet printer and then heating the ink-reactive foil using a laminator. This technique is well suited to filled patterns, but is often less accurate - a black print under the gold plating is visible.
A different foil is dedicated to Foil Quill tips - one that reacts to temperature. The tip is placed in the plotter, which then sketches patterns using it. Foil Quill heats up to a high temperature and welds the foil into the paper, giving a permanent gilding effect. This technique does not require a laser printer, which can be a big saving for people who have a plotter.
